December was a fun month for us. Probably the most exciting thing was Eli learning to walk. Here’s a look at what he’s been up to this month.

In creating this video I learned something interesting about YouTube; they apparently have audio detection software that compares the audio of an uploaded video to known items. I had several songs playing sequentially in the background of the video (the first three tracks from the same album). I received an email from YouTube saying the audio portion of my video had been disabled because it “may have content that is owned or licensed by WMG.” I swapped out the old audio for a different song.

I find it very interesting that YouTube would censor videos that way, especially considering their use of the word “may.” I wonder if they are required to do so, or if that is a service they sell to companies, such as WMG, to help them protect their copyrights.

I’ve taken some of them and put together two videos for you to check out. It started as one, but I split it into two as YouTube doesn’t accept videos over ten minutes. That said, enjoy.

Nothing is safe in our apartment as of a few days ago; Eli figured out how to crawl. It’s really exciting to see him scooting around the floor, chasing down everything. We were kinda hoping he wouldn’t quite figure it out until we moved to our house and got things baby-proofed, but that didn’t work out. Rather than go through the trouble of doing that here (only a couple weeks before we move), we’re just keeping a close eye on him.

Here’s a video of Eli showing off his new trick. It’s been tough to get him to crawl when we want to see it, so Megan tempted him with the ultimate toy he cannot have: the remote.

The video below contains actual audio (since the new camera actually has a mic on it). For those of you waiting to hear Eli for the first time, here ya go.

He was not happy at the moment since he was starting to get hungry and the nurse was poking at the monitor on his foot. Without further ado, everyone’s favorite noise: a baby crying.
